This sermon was preached Resurrection Sunday, April 21, 2019.
Alleluia! Christ is risen!
He is risen indeed! Alleluia!
The resurrection of Jesus changed everything, once it was revealed. Once Christ’s followers witnessed the truth of Jesus’ new life, they could not go back to life as it was. They were ushered into a new reality that had invaded the present reality, and it made them witnesses to the new reality in the present. And when their story of resurrection put them at odds with the powers of this present reality, the disciples were willing even to die, because they were so sure that death was defeated, sin was stripped away, and Life lives.
2000 years later, it’s still the ones who have seen the truth of Jesus’ resurrection, whose hearts have been set afire by Jesus’ reign and lordship over all things, who are bearing witness to that new reality in compelling, winsome, undeniable ways.
Q. When did Jesus reveal himself to you? How did he set your heart burning with the truth of his resurrection?
Q. How will you bear witness to that truth? Who needs to know the good news that Jesus lives?
